If you would love to immigrate permanently to Canada, you will find numerous pathways to make your dream a reality. One of them is the Canada Express Entry sponsorship program.
This program is an online system used to manage the application process for skilled workers planning to live in Canada. With it, you can become a permanent resident and, subsequently, a citizen.
What are the Programs under the Canada Express Entry System?
Express Entry manages three programs for skilled workers, and they include the following:
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For skilled workers with Canadian work experience. Applicants must have three years of work experience before applying.
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): For skilled workers with foreign work experience, they must meet education and other criteria before applying.
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For skilled workers qualified in a skilled trade. They must have a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification.
Meeting the eligibility criteria for any of the above also qualifies you to apply for the Provincial Nominee Program through Express Entry. Your nomination will offer you extra points and qualify you for an invitation to apply.
How do I apply for the Canada Express Entry Sponsorship Program?
To apply for the program, here are the requisite steps to follow:
Step one: Find out eligibility
You must meet the eligibility criteria of at least one of the Express Entry programs above.
Step two: complete your language testing
You must meet the language requirements. If you are immigrating to Quebec, you must meet the French language requirements. Otherwise, the English language is the official language of other provinces.
Step three: Submit your profile
The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is the website for submitting your profile. They will check your information to see if you qualify for an invitation.
Step four: Receive an invitation to apply
If you meet the criteria and submit your profile, you may be qualified to receive an invitation to apply (ITA).
Apply for permanent residency
The next step is to apply for permanent residency once you receive your ITA. You will need to pay your fees and provide your supporting documents. These documents include medical reports, proof of funds, English language proof, etc. You have only 60 days to do so, after which your invitation will expire. Hence, gather your documents as early as possible and be prepared. After this, IRCC will ask you to submit your biometrics. When they make their final decision, they will reach out to you.
Who can sponsor me under the Canada Express Entry Sponsorship Program?
Only a handful of persons in Canada are eligible to sponsor your immigration. The first set of sponsorships includes your family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Conjugal partner or spouse, children, and parents are the only qualified family members to sponsor your immigration if they meet the conditions.
Another sponsor is your Canadian employer or company, which is eligible to hire international workers. Check out how you can find a Canadian employer through this link.
What are the Draws under the Canada Express Entry Sponsorship Program?
Express Entry has three draw types, and they are:
General rounds of invitation: Those with the highest-ranking Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores are invited by IRCC to apply for permanent residency.
Program-specific rounds of invitation: Those with the highest-ranking scores eligible for specific Express Entry programs are invited by the IRCC.
Category-based rounds of invitation: IRCC invites those with the highest-ranking CRS scores to be eligible for designated categories aimed at fostering economic growth.
